The Guildford Clinic has invested heavily in technologically advanced scanning equipment for MRI, CT, Ultrasound, X Ray and Cone beam imaging.


Our MRI is the Siemens 1.5T Open Bore scanner and has an opening of more than 27 inches in diameter, providing a full foot of space above the patient’s head, far more than traditional MRI scanners and its extremely short bore enables many examinations to be performed with the patient’s head  completely outside the magnet bore. The Espree delivers high quality images in considerably shorter times than with other MRI scanners. For patients who struggle with the claustrophobic nature of the traditional MRI scanner, the Espree is a welcome relief, encouraging greater take-up of this valuable diagnostic tool.

The jewel in the crown of the Guildford Clinic is, however, our 128 slice CT scanner.  Costing over £1 million, the Siemens SOMATOM Definition AS is one of the most advanced CT scanner in the industry. Thanks to the speed of the image acquisition, consultants are able to scan every beating heart, regardless of heart rate, using as little as half the radiation that would be needed with a traditional scanner as well as remove any clinically irrelevant dosage.  It provides full coverage of any organ in 4 dimensions. From the patient’s point of view, this means a faster scan that produces significantly improved image quality, whilst from the Consultants point of view the highly detailed and razor sharp images mean they are able to diagnose diseases such as cancer, in their earliest, most treatable stages. It also has a wider gantry, where the patient lies, and can take up to 220 kg in weight.
